Both I and my wife visit dating websites. Sometimes we do it together as a couple and sometimes we do it separately. My wife and I have no secrets from each other. We met seven years ago through dating websites and since then we have used dating websites to find friends, other couples of similar interests to our own and sometimes just for online fun.

I am not saying that dating websites would suit everyone. I don't think it is easy for some people to meet others online. It might seem easy, but communication is very important and if someone cannot easily communicate themselves, explain themselves and what they want, use words to paint a picture and create a good impression, then online dating can be difficult. But if you are at ease with words and expressing yourself, it is an ideal medium to say who you are and maybe, just maybe, find the partner that you have been looking for all your life.

As I say, I met my wife through dating websites. That was seven years ago now. It all started up very slowly - we were both novices then and not used to online communication, or even the language and terminology. We found common interests and just chatted. We never even imagined meeting up, because we just lived so far away from each other.

But the relationship developed over time. Interestingly, both of us met a number of other people online, met them, dated, had a number of sexual affairs, but they all petered out in the end. Through all these relationships, we stayed in touch, compared notes, laughed about some of the things which happened.

What was interesting was that, not knowing each other and never expecting to meet, we developed a very honest and frank relationship between us, never really caring about how we would appear to the other, but just being ourselves. It was interesting being able to talk openly and honestly with someone about virtually anything and most importantly sex, which we found was very important to both of us. Both of us, we found, were afraid of getting tied down and gradually we began to realise how much of a kindred spirit we had found in each other.

Then one day we met. Karen had this invite for a party, one of those sex parties, and she really wanted to go, but she'd never been to one before and felt nervous and unsure. What she really wanted was someone to go with her, someone she trusted, so she asked me. It was a long way, several hundred miles, in fact, but I couldn't resist the attraction of the party and finally meeting Karen, so I said yes.

We met for the first time, a kiss, an embrace and then we went back to Karen's flat. I couldn't believe that someone could be so wonderful, so sexy and so beautiful. We realised we didn't need the party and spent the whole weekend in the flat, in bed. We've never looked back since.
